Abstract

Epilepsy is a recurrent outbreak occurring as a result of temporary dysfunction in part or in whole of the brain because of electrical stimulation of excessive neurons, which can cause a sudden and instantaneous motor, sensory, autonomic or psychic abnormality. This study aims to explore the experiences of families living with family members with epilepsy. This research is a qualitative research with phenomenology design conducted through in-depth interviews conducted in August - September 2017. Participants in this study are families living in District Demon Pagong aged between 45-60 years. Data collection was done with in-depth interviews on 6 participants living with epilepsy patients. Analytical technique using colaizzi method. The study produced four themes: family perceptions of knowledge about epilepsy, the best effort given by the family, daily activities in the family, and the behaviors experienced by the family. Researchers advise health workers to provide health education to parents and patients, parents are expected to understand the effects of epilepsy, understand the signs and symptoms, and understand the factors that trigger so that parents can supervise the child well. Provide effective positive support, to the Sufferer, either emotionally, informatively, or in the formof material for recovery and prevention.
